Silvia was born in Tijuana, Mexico. She grew up in San Diego and became a Christian in the campus ministry in 1989. Soon afterwards, she met a young engineer, Luis Mendez, and they were married in 1991.
Their two adult children, Luis Jr, 27, now married and Jennay, 22, are both Christians. Luis and Silvia both served in the ministry as evangelists and women’s ministry leaders and later as an elder and elder’s wife for the San Diego Church of Christ and for Mexico. Part of their duties in their dual roles included helping church leadership groups manage conflict and restore unity.
Silvia’s beloved husband, Luis, went to be with the Lord in May 2019. Silvia continues to serve as women’s ministry leader in both the San Diego Church of Christ and in Mexico.
